Are you in the top 5% of content writers?

Published about 1 month ago • 4 min read

Hello Reader!

Quick PSA:

As you can see in the section above, I’m testing out ads in my emails. With some light advertising, I can cover some of the costs associated with running this newsletter. Yay!

Thank you!

MP3 | Marketing Over Wine Podcast

I had a great interview on the Marketing Over Wine podcast. We chatted about:

  • How to be in the top 5% of content writers in the face of AI
  • Why I moved into SaaS marketing
  • How to balance work and parenting
  • Seltzer water (what I was drinking) & wine
  • And more!

Expert Interview | Ankit Vora

1. Tell me more about yourself and how you started with content marketing.

Even though I've been writing since 2015, I got introduced to content marketing in 2019. That's when I had just begun my FT job (as a developer) yet still offered freelance content writing on the side. I used to work with digital marketing agencies yet wasn't much familiar with B2B SaaS (even though I used SaaS all the time). And it all happened when I got out of my comfort zone and started engaging on LinkedIn. I connected with a lot of people but followed only a handful of experts. Over time, I began to understand how content works and what the big picture looks like. As I continued reading content from these experts, and reading content from industry-leading publications like Animalz, I had a better understanding of how to effectively produce high-quality content.

2. You write a lot of content refreshes. What's your best advice for a content team looking to refresh their content to improve rankings and resonate better with their audience as the times change?

Yes, I love content refreshes. Because so many of my clients have witnessed outstanding results with content refreshing. Not just in terms of traffic, but paid conversions as well. My best advice: identify the content pieces to refresh. Don't pick a random piece out of nowhere. Instead, look for posts that need a slight boost on search engines, decaying content, blog posts that target high-volume and high-intent keywords yet don't rank as expected, and posts that target high-intent keywords. Make CRO a priority. Add product workflows, and don't be afraid to mention your product (but do so naturally). Analyze your best-performing posts (in terms of conversions), understand why they convert, and implement similar strategies while refreshing. I recently wrote a comprehensive article about content refreshing. You should definitely give it a read.
